Abstract
We herein report planar waveguide structures containing dual modes in (La0.3Sr0.7)(Al0.65Ta0.35)O3 via the irradiation of 6.0Â MeV C ions at fluences of 1.0Â ÃÂ 1015Â ions/cm2 and 2.0Â ÃÂ 1015Â ions/cm2. The Rutherford backscattering/channeling spectrometry, Raman spectra and X-ray diffraction were also measured to study the damage and microstructural characteristics. The guiding modes were measured using the prism-coupling method. The refractive index profiles were reconstructed according to the effective refractive index functions. The near field intensity profiles were acquired using the end-face coupling method, followed by comparison to simulation results using the beam propagation method. The propagation loss of the TM0-mode at 633Â nm was also measured. The characteristics of C ion irradiation with fluences of 1.0Â ÃÂ 1015Â ions/cm2 and 2.0Â ÃÂ 1015Â ions/cm2 were compared.
