Abstract
Sodium hexadecyl sulfate (SHS) intercalated organo-LDH was successfully prepared by adding tricalcium aluminate (C3A) into SHS aqueous solution at room temperature. The potential mechanisms were investigated by various techniques. During the hydrolysis of C3A, CaAl-LDHs were initially formed as intermediates. Subsequently, SHS ions were exchanged into the interlayer space of CaAl-LDHs, leading to the formation of CaAl-LDH-CA. The d valuewas expanded to 2.66Â nm due to the presence of SHS ions in the interlayer space of LDH.178
