Abstract
This paper presents a study on simulating the flows around a tanker performing forced motions. The capacity of the original RANS solver in OpenFOAM has been extended for this purpose. The simulations of the flows around the tanker performing static drift, turning and dynamic pure sway motions in deep water are carried out. During the simulations, the free surface is not considered, i.e. double-body flow, due to the low Froude number. The k-ω SST model without wall functions is employed to approximate the eddy viscosity. This study shows that the extended solver can be used for the purpose of simulating forced ship motions of captive test, since satisfactory agreements are found between the computed results and measured data.
