Abstract
In present paper the method and set-up for measurements of the delayed neutron characteristics in the interaction of relativistic protons with heavy nuclei are described. On the basis of this method the time dependence of delayed neutron activity has been measured for the interaction of 238U sample with 1Â GeV pulsed proton beam of the synchrocyclotron of the Petersburg Institute of Nuclear Physics, Gatchina. The measured data were analyzed in the framework of the 8-group precursor's model with a consistent set of half-lives. The obtained results on the relative abundances of delayed neutron precursors are compared with appropriate data from the fast neutron induced fission of 233U, systematics data developed for neutron induced fission and data calculated on the basis of the isotopic production cross sections obtained for the reaction products from the inverse kinematics measurements 238U(1Â AÂ GeV)+p.
