Abstract
This paper describes the simulation work for optimizing the newly developed 20-in. elliptical MCP-PMT by enlarging the outside diameters of the two focusing electrodes and the open area of the glass bulb. Effects of biasing voltages applied to the two focusing electrodes and the MCP input facet are studied. With the new design of the 20Â in. MCP-PMT, the transit time spread of the prototype can be less than 3Â ns and the collection efficiency is as much as the present prototype.
