Abstract
We have developed a cryogenic target for use at the High Intensity γ-ray Source (HIγS). The target system is able to liquefy 4He at 4 K, hydrogen at 20 K, and deuterium at 23 K to fill a 0.3 L Kapton cell. Liquid temperatures and condenser pressures are recorded throughout each run in order to ensure that the target's areal density is known to â¼1%. The target is being utilized in a series of experiments which probe the electromagnetic polarizabilities of the nucleon.
