Abstract
Generation of oxidants by NOX follows a Gaussian distribution in the general population, where both extremes of the bell-shaped curve are considered to promote neurodegenerative diseases. Too little NOX2 activity promotes autoimmune neurodegeneration while too much NOX2 activity promotes microglia-dependent neurodegenerative mechanisms. The arrows represent potential therapeutic approaches to reach normal redox function in the CNS.218
