Abstract
In professional football players with ankle pain there is a high frequency of MTPs mainly in latent state. Tibialis anterior and peroneus longus, associated with the ankle stability during soccer kicks, running and direction change actions were the most affected muscles in these athletes. Prospective studies with a high sample size are necessary to confirm the causal relation between the MTPs and ankle pain of the professional football player.
