Abstract
â¢Inviting family to be present in the room during resuscitation is not a standard practice in the intensive care unit (ICU).â¢The barriers to family presence during resuscitation (FPDR) perceived by nurses may limit their invitation.â¢A major barrier to inviting FPDR is the lack of dedicated staff to serve as the family support person.â¢Other barriers include fear of negative consequences, desire to know patient wishes, and lack of leadership support.â¢Dedicating staff to serve as family support person, providing education, and developing policies may improve invitation.
