Abstract
The relevance of EEG monitoring in patients under pharmacotherapy remains controversial. However, treatment guidelines support the use of standard EEG under medication with psychoactive agents, at least in patients with a history of seizures or risk factors for the development of epileptic seizures. There is clear evidence from the literature that EEG monitoring can be particularly helpful under treatment with lithium and clozapine. In clinical routine, clinicians should be aware of the spectrum of EEG alterations under psychopharmacotherapy and their clinical significance.
