Abstract
Oxygen is widely used during anaesthesia in children. High level of oxygen has clearly toxicity in neonate and infants. Paediatric anaesthetists need to evaluate the balance risks/benefits of the use of oxygen between the prevention of hypoxic events and oxygen toxicity. We propose to review the physiologic consequences' of oxygen in children, the benefits of hyperoxia and the pertinence of its use in the prevention and treatment of hypoxia.
