Abstract
There has been considerable development in the field of cardiac anaesthesia. We review the literature for 2014 and 2015 for progress that impacts our anaesthetic practice. Some highlights include new evidence in the management of ischaemic mitral regurgitation as well as transcatheter techniques for valvular heart disease. Noteworthy, is a first multidisciplinary effort to develop guidelines for the practice of cardiopulmonary bypass by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, The Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists, and The American Society of ExtraCorporeal Technology for Temperature Management. Significant trials are reviewed like the Transfusion Indication Threshold Reduction trial on transfusion triggers for cardiac surgery.
