Abstract
This study evaluated systemic bacteremia caused by chewing in a 42-year-old male with chronic severe periodontitis and uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus. Aerobic and anaerobic Gram-positive bacilli were detected by culture, and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans and Porphyromonas gingivalis by real time polymerase chain reaction in blood samples.
