Abstract
- Success of cholesterol screening has been limited, especially of children with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH).
- Less than 1% of FH cases are identified in the United States.
- For lipid lowering to be effective, individuals with FH must be identified.
- Screening children from ages 1 to 9Â years may be the most opportune time to screen for FH.
- Clinical care of an individual with FH should include cascade screening of relatives.
