Abstract
Neointimal formation is the pathologic hallmark of vascular restenosis. This study demonstrated that activation of transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 with capsaicin significantly ameliorates restenosis. In vitro, we found that capsaicin stimulates endothelial cell proliferation and migration. In vivo, we found that capsaicin accelerates re-endothelialization and attenuates neointimal hyperplasia in wire-injured carotid arteries.
