Abstract
Epilepsy is one of the most common chronic neurological diseases, observed in both genders and in all age and ethnic groups. Long-term antiepileptic drugs are required in most patients, especially for those with refractory epilepsy. Chronic exposure to antiepileptic drugs can lead to several adverse effects, but the potential for affecting thyroid hormones is not well known. Serum levels should be monitored in patients receiving antiepileptic drugs, especially pregnant women.
