Abstract
â¢A new technique for sex estimation was investigated using the volume of the tooth root.â¢The first reference study for sex estimation using 3D odontometric data in Iranian populations.â¢Tooth root volumes are specially effective in the case of samples containing poorly preserved bones and highly worn teeth.â¢The proposed technique is a valid alternative for sex estimation with the added value that no manual handling of the teeth-is necessary.
Advances in technologies such as computed tomography (CT) scanning have allowed for further examination of dental sexual dimorphism in modern and archaeological populations.
