Thrombotic cutaneous gangrene is attributed to microvascular thrombosis, which arises from the hypercoagulability observed in ulcerative colitis. Complete blood and coagulation tests must be performed and early anticoagulation with heparin must be considered in order to prevent the progression of cutaneous infarction.
