Abstract
This article describes progress made in the design of insulin injection needles which have become increasingly shorter, with a thinner outer diameter as well as a thinner wall. These needles now have an improved bevel and are therefore less painful, even if the differences are now minimal. These changes in the design of the needles will have an impact on the representation that patients and doctors form of the injection and will affect the prescribing and acceptance of insulin. Finally, this article calls for better communication between physicians and their patients on this essential issue on diabetes care.
