Abstract
Offloading techniques are commonly used to promote the healing of foot ulcers in peoples with diabetes. Unfortunately, they are seldom used in sub-Saharan Africa either because of unawareness of health personnel or the prohibitive cost associated with the materials used. In this article, we report the main offloading techniques with their efficacy, their advantages, and their inconveniences. Based on our clinical experience we present also some materials that can be locally produced at low costs and be used to efficiently offload diabetic foot ulcers in persons living in resource-limited settings.
