Abstract
Adolescent obese patients present a challenge to clinicians. The aim of the treatment is to involve the quality of life and prevent obesity in adulthood without disturbing growth and development nor inducing eating disorders. The management had to improve eating and activity behavior. Dietary intervention -individually adapted to each patient- consists to change the eating patterns, to limit specific foods such as calorie drinking, and to negativate the energy balance by modest calorie restriction. High nutritional density foods such as fruits and vegetables, control of portions, increasing water, and a nutritional education to choose the appropriate foods and to determine hunger and fullness levels are the main keys of the treatment. The use of low-calorie diet, commercial high-protein or low-calorie products are prohibited. A psychological support will ease this long-term prescription and prevent the risk of isolation from the society and eating disorders.
