Abstract
Taking care of shouting demented residents in medicosocial institutions is complex. Interventions with professional caregivers are a component of care provision because they make it possible to sustain the relationship by decreasing negative feelings among professionals and preventing burnout. Our survey conducted among professionals in three geriatric institutions shows that the exposure to repeated shouting by demented residents generates negative feelings that increase the risk of burnout. Training for these professionals, the organisation of multidisciplinary meetings, psychogeriatric mobile team interventions and the development of practice analysis groups could improve the management of these residents.
