Abstract
French guidelines about the prevention of infection after vascular access or skin preparation before surgery changed over the recent years. The uselessness of skin scrubbing on clean skin before antisepsis for preparation before surgery was affirmed in 2013; on the basis of new publications, it was confirmed in 2016Â and extended to skin preparation before catheter insertion. The other change is the preferential use of chlorhexidine rather than povidones iodine for skin antisepsis before catheter insertion, always in alcoholic formulation. Both products however can still be used for skin preparation before surgery.
