Abstract
To focus the correct differential diagnosis should know the molecular elements that regulate iron metabolism and the influence on them numerous genetic and acquired factors, which may act in combination. The determination of transferrin saturation, non invasive liver iron quantification by MRI and genotyping of HFE gene polymorphisms are very useful in guiding the underlying cause. Only in some cases it will have to perform more complex molecular studies.
