Abstract
The high mortality rate associated with this pathology is due to the frequent occurrence of complications. Arrhythmias in general are more frequent during the acute phase, while ventricular arrhythmias are the main cause of death in pre-hospitalization periods. During and after hospitalization, the severity of ventricular dysfunction and its consequences will determine the patient's prognosis. Mechanical complications (which are also much less frequent in the era of early reperfusion) have a high lethality rate butare potentially reparable, so they should always be considered when treating a patient with an abrupt haemodynamic deterioration.
