Abstract
The only curative treatment option is surgical resection. Perioperative chemotherapy, chemoradiation therapy and adjuvant chemotherapy have shown their efficacy in stages I to III of stomach cancer in various randomised studies. For advanced disease, various combinations of chemotherapy are normally employed. The addition of trastuzumab to first-line chemotherapy of disseminated disease has increased the efficacy of chemotherapy in tumours that overexpress human epidermal growth factor receptor 2.
