Abstract
Diagnosis is established by an hemoglobin increase greater than 185 grams / liter in males, and greater than 165 grams /liter in females. The determination of EPO and oxygen saturation is the first step in the differential diagnosis. Other tests such as a bone marrow biopsy and the JAK2 mutation are key to the etiologic diagnosis.
