Abstract
Errors in medication administration process (EPAM) correspond to 19% of those associated with health care according to the Institute of Medicine report adverse events. The incidence is higher in critical units, estimated at 1.75 EPAM per patient per day. This is due to several factors: The vulnerability of the patient; The dynamics of critical units and complexity of drug therapy among others. The highest percentage of EPAM occur in the administering step, so that the role of nursing in prevention is fundamental. There are multiple strategies for prevention, with different level of complexity, in terms of implementation. It is therefore important to know how these strategies have been implemented and the challenges that arise in the process. This article aims to share our experience, which could be a contribution in the search for a common goal: To provide safe care to critically ill patients.
