Abstract
Medicaid has played a substantial role in providing health insurance coverage and benefits for many low-income families. However, rising costs pose a significant challenge to beneficiaries, providers, and state and federal governments. The Affordable Care Act, enacted in 2010, served to expand coverage, lower costs, and improve quality of care. As the landscape of healthcare continues to evolve, it is necessary to assess the status of Medicaid and discuss developments at the state and federal level. Our report examines the opportunities afforded by Medicaid expansion, the progress of healthcare reform in total joint arthroplasty, and our experience with the Affordable Care Act.
