Abstract
Degenerative scoliosis can results in sagittal imbalance. This in turn can lead severe pain and disability in patients. Restoration of patients back to a more physiologic alignment can help relieve their pain and allow them to live happier and more active lives. The use of Smith-Petersen and pedicle subtraction osteotomies can be very useful tools in restoring sagittal alignment. The following manuscript will describe the proper evaluation of patients who may benefit from these osteotomies and helpful hints on these techniques.
