Abstract
Multiple techniques for auricular reconstruction for microtia have been described. Reconstruction using autologous costal cartilage continues to be the most widely implemented technique for repair. Recreation of a three-dimensional framework mimicking the curves and contours of a normal ear, while also maximizing stability, is crucial in reconstructing the auricle. Additionally, soft tissue management, although generalized in approach, is specific to each patient and greatly influences surgical outcomes. In the present article, we discuss the Nagata technique for auricular reconstruction, a 2-staged technique using costal cartilage grafts to rebuild the auricle.
