Abstract
The illness anxiety disorder is a new diagnostic category in the DSM-5 that explains the symptoms in 25% of patients diagnosed with hypochondria. It is characterized by the concern of having or the possibility of developing a serious illness, usually in the absence of significant somatic symptoms. It appears also associated with a significant level of health anxiety. It currently represents a challenge from the diagnostic point of view, since it is difficult to frame it nosologically in the present classification systems being included in the somatic symptom and related disorders. We describe the case of a patient who meets the clinical picture. A case of a patient who meets criteria is presented, based on the clinical case and review of the various items carried is established.
