Abstract
Alpha-B-crystallin is overexpressed in epithelial cells and myofibroblasts and is able to modulate the TGF-β pathway depending on the SMAD proteins. αB-crystallin is able to modulate the localization of SMAD 4 by inhibiting its ubiquitination. SMAD 4 stays in the nucleus and leads to collagen synthesis. Inhibition of HSP proteins is a new potential therapeutic target in fibrosis.
