Abstract
Tobacco is the main cause of the lung cancer epidemic. Nevertheless, it is estimated that 25 % of lung cancers are not attributable to active smoking. Some features of non-smoking patients with lung cancer differ from smokers : female predominance, tendency to occur at a younger age, adenocarcinomas preponderance with a different mutational profile, better prognosis regardless of disease stage. The carcinogens implicated in the occurrence of lung cancer in non-smoking are detailed.
