Abstract
Standard ventilation design practice optimizes neither safety nor energy efficiency. Contemporary design process supports the labs' mission, incorporates codified requirements, and embraces the design team's goals by evolving beyond standard design practice. A variety of practical and innovative design strategies can be applied that ensure safety and advance energy efficiency. Design examples are provided that have studied and optimized lab ventilation effectiveness.
