Abstract

“Pastoralism” is a quest to bring back nature to our urban lifein contemporary times but architecture is always overcoming our needs of nature and as a result Green is missing. The question that arises is why architecture is replacing landscape? “Architecture” is an element that is fulfilling the most obvious needs of humans for living. It provides protection against the unfavourable climatic conditions, of which humans are not equipped naturally like animals to cope with it (shelter). “Landscape” is an element that is providing food to us but the food is generated by agricultural lands and these set of lands are normally exist out of cities in rural areas.Landscape always being appreciated for its aesthetic value but it offers more than just an aesthetic pleasure. It gives our planet conditions that makes life possible. It supports not only living of humans as well as birds and insects. To bring landscape back in the urban life (contemporary town); it is important to think about what can a landscape offer for the betterment of human living. It's not enough to create landscapes as breathing places within cities. We have to think how landscape can be a part of our daily contemporary life.Architecture is always offering an active use of it. For example, spaces for living, working places, industry places for mass production to fulfil the needs of mass population. On the other hand, landscape is always offering passive uses. For example, landscape is producing oxygen that's the key element for breathing but still I will say it is a passive use of landscape as we can't use oxygen as an active element in our daily life. One of the many reasons why architecture is always the dominant element is that it offers active use and humans are more considerate to active uses. In this context, we as landscape architects have to come up with a design for a landscape that provides it active uses in such a way that in its absence our daily life activities will be disturbed.
