Abstract
- Schwertmannite was found to be a promising Fenton-like catalyst in the oxidation of phenol.
- H2O2 decomposition catalyzed by schwertmannite was via a OH radical mechanism.
- OH produced at pH 3.0 was mainly through the catalytic mechanism of dissolved Fe(III).
- OH produced at pH 5.0 was mainly through the catalytic mechanism of Fe(III) species.
- Schwertmannite showed a high saline-tolerance and a good reusability in the oxidation of phenol.
