Abstract
We present necessary and sufficient conditions so that a square complex matrix A can be written as A=QS, with orthogonal Q and skew symmetric S. We also present necessary and sufficient conditions so that a 2n-by-2n complex matrix B can be written as B=WR, with symplectic W and Hamiltonian R.
