Abstract
⺠We started up microbial fuel cell (MFC) using enriched sulfate-reducing mixed culture. ⺠Sulfate-reducing bacteria and anode-respiring bacteria were enriched in anodic biofilms. ⺠The MFC effectively remove sulfate to elementary sulfur in the presence of lactate. ⺠The present device can treat sulfate laden wastewaters with electricity harvesting.
