Abstract
⺠Demonstration that bacteria engineered for EPS overproduction have better survival against Ag nanotoxicity. ⺠EPS destabilises Ag nanoparticles and promotes their aggregation. ⺠TEM demonstration that EPS traps the Ag nanoparticles outside the cell. ⺠EPS from overexpressing strains offers protection to non-EPS strains of bacteria. ⺠EPS polymer analogues such as xanthan also produce a similar response.
