Abstract
► MWCNTs and activated carbon were tested in ozonation of sulphamethoxazole (SMX). ► MWCNTs present higher catalytic performance than activated carbons for SMX ozonation. ► The lowest acute toxicity was achieved with simultaneous use of ozone and MWCNTs. ► Several oxidation products (organics compounds and inorganics ions) were identified. ► The transformation pathway for the complete mineralization of SMX was elucidated.
