Performance of innovative PU-foam and natural fiber-based composites for the biofiltration of a mixture of volatile organic compounds by a fungal biofilm

► ECs with the PU-biofilter were higher than those reported for hexane and MEK. ► The only significant initial efficiency was noted with PU (80 gC m−3 h−1). ► F. solani was the predominant microorganism. ► The addition of starch to the PU-foam reduce the start-up time of the biofilter.
