Abstract
We demonstrate the use of structural data together with forward kinematic modelling to identify the strain distribution within the SIC, rotation of SIC contacts and thickness changes of SIC layers. Backward kinematic modelling provides information on the initial geometry of the SIC and is used to restore the shape of the igneous sheet, showing that the SIC was shortened by approximately 10 km in NW-SE diameter. Most of the shortening was accommodated by 40% reduction in the thickness of the upper SIC layer.
