Abstract
► A highly bromate resistant bacterial community was isolated. ► It presents high ability for bromate removal. ► It was identified and it was concluded that was affected by the presence of sulphate. ► Clostridium/Citrobacter reported for the first time as having bromate removal ability. ► Enzymatic reduction of bromate and/or removal by extracellular metabolic products.
