Abstract
▶ Zinc is an essential heavy metal for biological functions; however, it becomes hazardous at certain concentrations. MEUF, a surfactant-based separation process, is promising in removing metal ions. ▶ The ANN proved to be a useful instrument in the optimization of the MEUF process. ▶ Fold over fractional factorial design offers good and fast screening procedure. There are currently no reports on MEUF by FFD. ▶ We applied the UF spiral-wound membrane which in cross-flow mode. ▶ We studied the effect of nonionic surfactant, pH and ligand and electrolyte concentration on Zn2+ rejection and permeate for first time.
