Abstract
► We investigated the synaptic mechanism of carisbamate in the dentate gyrus. ► Carisbamate inhibited glutamatergic transmission. ► GABAergic transmission and neuronal excitability were not affected. ► The antiepileptic effect of carisbamate is from inhibiting presynaptic Na channels.
