Abstract
⺠We investigated the synaptic mechanism of carisbamate in the dentate gyrus. ⺠Carisbamate inhibited glutamatergic transmission. ⺠GABAergic transmission and neuronal excitability were not affected. ⺠The antiepileptic effect of carisbamate is from inhibiting presynaptic Na channels.
