► Prefrontal somatostatin receptor 2 (SSTR2) mRNA is lower in schizophrenia subjects. ► The SSTR2 mRNA deficit is principally in pyramidal neurons in layers 5-6. ► In contrast, STTR1 mRNA expression is not altered.
