Abstract
⺠The serotonin transporter (SERT) mediates memory, amnesia and anti-amnesic effects. ⺠AD and drugs like “ecstasy” decrease SERT expression and produce memory deficits. ⺠Evidence indicates that memory formation and amnesia affect the SERT expression. ⺠Memory and, in a major degree, amnesia make the SERT vulnerable to the effects of ecstasy. ⺠SERT is a reliable neural marker related to memory mechanisms, its alterations and treatment.
