Abstract
⺠Apotransferrin protects neurons against heme-mediated neuronal injury. ⺠Holotransferrin is ineffective but does not antagonize the apotransferrin effect. ⺠Apotransferrin reduces cell iron deposition. ⺠Neuronal transferrin receptor-1 expression is not altered by increased iron.
