Abstract
Bipolar disorder has a bidirectional interaction with immune dysfunction, and immune dysfunction may mediate the bidirectional relationship between bipolar disorder and inflammatory disorders. Increased inflammation is present in a subset of patients with bipolar disorder, including those with comorbid bipolar disorder and inflammatory disease. Anti-inflammatory agents may have a role in treating bipolar disorder by acting at multiple targets to inhibit these interactions, particularly in those with inflammatory comorbidities.131
